Digital Well-being Peer Educators
Join the Digital Well-being Peer Educators Team
Applications for the 2025-2026 school year are open through March 31, 2025.
The Digital Well-being Peer Educators are a team committed to helping students build healthier relationships with technology and inspiring them to rethink their digital habits. Through interactive outreach, social media content, and peer-led discussions, the team promotes mindful technology use, with an emphasis on attention and focus, relationships and sexual health, sleep, mental health, and body image/nutrition.
As campus leaders in well-being, these peers spark conversations and encourage students to reflect on their screen time, online interactions, and overall tech habits—helping them align their digital choices with their personal goals and values.
By raising awareness and providing practical strategies, the team works to create a campus culture where students can balance technology with real-life connections and experiences. Through education, advocacy, and creative outreach, the Digital Well-being Peers empower students to take control of their digital lives, using technology in ways that support their health and well-being, relationships, and academic success.
This dynamic team is made up of outgoing and enthusiastic students who thrive on engaging with their peers and inspiring meaningful change in the way technology is used in everyday life. We are open to all majors.

How long has there been a Digital Well-being Peer Education team?
- Peer Educators at Virginia Tech began teaching digital well-being workshops, titled Unwind Offline, in Fall 2018. In May 2023, Virginia Tech was recognized as the first digitally well university in the world by the Digital Wellness Institute.
- Our first cohort of peer educators to exclusively serve as Digital Well-being Peer Educators started in the 2024–2025 academic year.
Are Digital Well-being Peer Educators paid?
- Yes, they are rewarded through skill acquisition, friendships, knowledge gain, and financially. Ambassadors receive hourly pay and are eligible for pay increases after their first year.
What is the time commitment?
- The weekly time commitment for DWB Peer Educators is about 5 hours each week with significant (and mandatory) training and attendance requirements. The time commitment includes:
- Mandatory meetings.
- Environmental installs across campus
- Outreach events
How will I be trained?
- We accept all majors and provide comprehensive education at our beginning of the year training sessions and weekly at our meetings. Our trainings consist of team building, content education, public speaking and facilitation skill activities.
How long do people serve as Digital Well-being Peer Educators?
- The minimum period is 1 year with most members staying 2 or more years based on graduation. Peer educators must be enrolled as a Virginia Tech student in order to serve on the team.
When do you accept applications?
- The application process for these positions is competitive. Our application window closes at the end of March for the following school year. We accept new applications once each academic year.
Who can apply?
- We accept applications from all undergraduate students in any major! Rising sophomores and rising juniors are particularly encouraged to apply.
How many people are on the team?
- We like to carry a team of 10 peer educators. This number enables us to provide meaningful mentorship and outreach hours to each member of the team.
What is the deadline to apply?
- We are accepting applications through March 31. 2025.
May I also apply for other student groups that Hokie Wellness has, such as IMPACT, the Financial Wellness Peers, etc.?
- Due to the requirements and training required for each group, our preference is that you ONLY apply to one group, with the exception of the Connection Project, which is an experience through academic credit. If you have additional questions about this, please talk with peer education team leadership before applying.
Are there other peer education programs at Virginia Tech?
- Yes, there are several other non-Hokie Wellness peer education programs.
