Laurie J. Fritsch, M.S. ED., TTS, CHES

Assistant Director, Health Education

Laurie Fritsch is an Assistant Director of Hokie Wellness at Virginia Tech, where she has worked in college health since 2000. A double Hokie with degrees in health education, she is passionate about helping students develop healthier relationships with technology in our increasingly digital world.

As a Certified Health Education Specialist, Laurie has spent 25 years developing wellness programs, training peer educators, and serving as a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Her expertise in behavior change, spans sexual health, sleep, body image, nicotine addiction, and digital well-being.

In 2017, Laurie pioneered Virginia Tech's digital well-being initiatives, leading to the university being named the First Certified Digitally Well University in 2023. In 2024, she founded the Coalition for Collegiate Digital Well-being, a collaborative initiative exploring research, best practices, and innovative approaches that foster digital flourishing for students across campuses.

Outside work, she balances her life by staying physically active outdoors, spending time with her husband and two teenage daughters, experimenting in the kitchen, and connecting with friends.
