Join the Higher Education Employee Well-Being (HEEW) Consortium for a one-day gathering in Alexandria, Virginia to meet with wellness and well-being professionals dedicated to supporting employees in higher education settings. HEEW Symposium 2026 Schedule

Accommodations and Lodging

Courtesy room blocks have been secured at two nearby hotels at a discounted nightly rate within the state employee per diem allowance. The rates, listed below without taxes and fees, are available for either one or two nights, July 29-30.

  • Hyatt Centric at 1625 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314 - $183 per night
    • Complimentary valet parking is included in the nightly rate.
    • Recommended for symposium attendees driving from out of town.
    • Guests checking out the morning of July 30 are welcome to leave their vehicles at the hotel during the symposium and retrieve them later in the evening at no additional charge.
  • Residence Inn by Marriott at 1456 Duke St, Alexandria, VA 22314 - $169 per night
    • Parking rate is an additional $50 per vehicle per night.
    • Free breakfast is included for hotel guests.
    • Recommended for symposium attendees traveling without a vehicle.
    • Guests checking out the morning of July 30 are welcome to leave their vehicles at the hotel during the symposium and retrieve them later in the evening at no additional charge.

Both hotels are a short walk from Alexandria Station (Amtrak and VRE) and King Street-Old Town Station (Metro). The King Street Trolley provides daily, fare-free service every 15 minutes from 11 a.m-11 p.m. each day. Trolley stops are located along the King Street corridor between the King Street Metro station and Old Town Waterfront, where you can find plenty of shops and restaurants.

Getting to the Symposium

We encourage symposium attendees to take public transportation as the venue is conveniently located along the WMATA Metro system. Virginia Tech Academic Building One is a beautiful 5-minute walk away from the Potomac Yard-VT Station. As you exit the station on University Drive, turn right (northbound) and follow the sidewalk to the main entrance.

For those who wish to drive to the symposium, surface lot and covered garage parking options are available at Academic Building One at a daily rate of $20 per car. More information on parking can be found on our website.

We will have a dinner and social gathering on Wednesday, July 29. All attendees who are local or arriving in Alexandria early are encouraged to attend and get a head start on networking before the symposium! More information will be shared closer to the event date.
