Sonia Doulamis
Sonia Doulamis is the Associate Director for Education and Prevention in Hokie Wellness. She joined the Hokie Wellness team in December 2023. In her role at Virgina Tech, she has the honor of working within the areas of Digital Well-Being, Financial Wellness, General Health Education, and Mental Health Initiatives and the staff that directly supervise those areas. Sonia is passionate about Public Health and believes that the skills students learn in college can help not only the individual, but future generations live a life of holistic well-being. Her personal philosophy is that the role of any Student Affairs Department is to serve and empower students.
Sonia is a very proud doble Hokie, having received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and her Master of Public Health degrees from Virginia Tech. After graduate school, she taught computers and health & wellness for grades Pre-K – 8 at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. She then moved out to Grand Forks, ND where she was the Health Promotion Coordinator at the University of North Dakota. Sonia then served as the Assistant Director for Substance Misuse Prevention, at James Madison University, where she oversaw all substance misuse programming, outreach, and education, based on the needs of the student body. While at UND, Sonia began her PhD in Higher Education and is at the final stage of writing her dissertation. She is an active member of several professional organizations including NASPA and ACHA and has presented at both ACHA, NASPA Strategies, and NASPA IV-West.
Having grown up in Lowell, MA, Sonia is a die-hard Boston sports fan, with football ranking as her favorite sport. On the weekend you can find her cheering on her two favorite sports teams, the New England Patriots and Virginia Tech Hokies. An avid fan of the outdoors, Sonia and her rescue dog Churchie, can be seen running or walking around town.
