Marketing Manager

The Marketing Manager reports to the Director of Hokie Wellness and serves as a member of the team that drives all marketing, communication, and special event needs for the Hokie Wellness Department. The Marketing Manager is responsible for promoting all Hokie Wellness programs and services to include health education, mental health initiatives, financial wellness, substance use, recovery, and employee wellness. This individual is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing, communication, and public relations plan for Hokie Wellness and will coordinate the department's promotional materials, publications, teaching media, websites, and social media. They will hire, train, and lead a student staff, and will manage and leverage student staff to reach student audiences. The Marketing Manager will develop and maintain collaborative partnerships within the Division of Student Affairs and should be willing to serve on committees and work teams as needed or desired.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in marketing, public relations, advertising, or related field. Experience in marketing, public relations and/or advertising experience that includes areas such as developing a marketing plan; creating promotional materials and publications; experience using a content management system to produce and post web content; and planning special events. Excellent communication skills and professional writing skills with strong editing and organizational skills. Experience with current computer software such as desktop publishing (Adobe Creative Cloud) and database management.

The successful Candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in health education, public health, or well-being environment. Supervisory experience. Mastery knowledge of website, design, and video editing software and equipment.

Recovery Program Coordinator

Virginia Tech’s Fralin Life Science’s Institute and Hokie Wellness are seeking a leader in the collegiate recovery movement to effectively assess need, grow, and enhance a diverse, positive, and inclusive recovery-ready community. This individual will be instrumental in growing and developing the Virginia Tech Recovery Community, participating in task force work to guide the future of this community, and development of a Living Learning Program for students in recovery. A recovery-ready community is a place where individuals are empowered to ask for help, intervene with empathy when they notice someone struggling with substance use or other addictive behavior, and respect recovery by offering encouragement and celebrating success.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Intervention & Recovery Services, this position will promote well-being through assessment, development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the university’s recovery support initiatives. These initiatives are designed to engage and empower people in recovery or considering recovery, as well as recovery allies. While students are the primary focus of this position, supporting the well-being and health of students necessitates considering and supporting the welfare of faculty and staff. The Coordinator will supervise part-time staff, student employees, and interns through the role of supervisor, educator, and mentor, and connect individuals to appropriate on- and off-campus clinical providers. This is a full-time 12-month university faculty restricted position with all state benefits and funding for 3 years with the intention of making this a continuous position.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human development, or a closely related field of study, in addition to direct experience working with the recovery community at large (or closely related experience) for at least one year. Applicants also must have: • A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience
• At least one year of previous supervisory experience (staff or students)
• Understanding of student development issues, emerging needs, and interests
• Thorough understanding and knowledge of harm-reduction, addiction, recovery, and recovery support services
• Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating recovery support initiatives
• Cultural competence related to recovery language, communities, and resources.
• Experience collaborating, volunteering, or working with recovery community organizations.
• Ability to relate effectively to and engage graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, administration, and community agencies
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive with pursuing collaborations
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice and creating inclusive environments
• Ability to supervise and train several student personnel
• Ability to ethically maintain standards of professional care and confidentiality
• Participate in continuing professional development activities to maintain competency

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Addiction Studies, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a closely related field of study.
• At least one year of professional experience working with a collegiate recovery community or other recovery community organization serving young adults
• Three years of experience working directly with the recovery community in general in any capacity
• Two years of previous supervisory experience (staff)
• Knowledge of best practices in collegiate health promotion and public health other
• Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programming
• Experience with oversight of recovery housing
• Experience with management of student scholarships
