Cannabis
Introduction
Cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, weed, or bud, is decriminalized in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This means you can legally possess it, but purchasing it without a medical license is not permitted. However, cannabis remains illegal under federal law, therefore you cannot have it on Virginia Tech’s campus. Virginia Tech receives federally funding which requires the university to stay in compliance with federal drug laws as part of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.
While most students do not use cannabis, if you choose to do so, it's essential to understand the relevant laws and harm reduction strategies to minimize risk.
