Hokie Wellness - Flu Vaccination Clinic

To help students, employees, and community members avoid getting the flu this fall and winter, Virginia Tech is offering a flu vaccination clinics in October and November across campuses. Walk-ins welcome, please make sure to bring your insurance card or VTCRI coupon.

Hokie Wellness - Helping Friends in Distress Workshop

We all have ups and downs in life but sometimes we enter periods of distress. Come to this hands on, interactive program to learn how to identify, assess, and make referrals to support services. Learn specific strategies to help friends, family members, and possibly yourself. Register here

Hokie Wellness - Introduction to Mindfulness

In our fast-paced society, it can be difficult to focus on the present and enjoy life, but practicing mindfulness can help.Mindfulness is paying attention on purpose, non-judgmentally, with curiosity and acceptance to the present moment. Research studies on mindfulness practice have been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety, and increase resiliency, wisdom, and authenticity. Stop by this introductory session and learn more about mindfulness, its benefits, and some ways to practice mindfulness. Register here

Rec Sports / Venture Out - Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)

October 22nd, Sunday, Roanoke, VA, location and time, TBD

This SUP (stand up paddle-boarding) trip will be on local Roanoke waterways and meet at a specific time and location, which will be emailed to all registered participants. Venture Out staff will provide all the needed equipment and instruction for the activity. While swimming is not mandatory, all participants should be aware of the possibility of getting wet and have a basic competency in swimming. Contact the Venture Out office at (540) 231-4982 from Noon to 6PM, Monday – Friday to register for these adventures. Registration for this trip will end on Oct 18th and trip details will be emailed to every participant by 5pm on Oct 19th.

Hokie Wellness - Tobacco-Free Hokies (TFH)

November 3, Friday, TBMH, 1 pm – 2 pm

Hokies who are smoke-free, tobacco-free, and vape-free and who attend this event will get a free Tobacco-Free Hokies t-shirt; learn about the TFH program; and about tobacco use issues in general. You must meet this definition in order to receive a Tobacco-Free Hokies t-shirt. Pre-registration for the program is preferred.

Current Hokies who are using tobacco or vape and want to quit, email hokiewellness@vt.edu to learn about the resources available to get help quitting.

Rec Sports / Venture Out

Venture Out will be leading a local day hike in the foothills of the regional Appalachian Mountains. This trip will meet at a specific time and location, which will be emailed to all registered participants. Venture Out staff will provide a basic review of the hike, local maps, and any needed instruction/equipment for the outing. Experience in hiking or backpacking is not required to participate, however, proper footwear must be worn. Contact the Venture Out office at (540) 231-4982 from Noon to 6PM, Monday – Friday to register for these adventures. Registration for this trip will end on Nov. 1st and trip details will be emailed to every participate by 1PM on Nov. 3rd.
