Unwind Offline Workshop

Do you have a love-hate relationship with your phone? Are you constantly “checking” social media but also craving time without it? You are not alone!

Our Unwind Offline education raises awareness about how constant social media engagement prevents important moments of boredom (boredom inspires creativity) and can take away from meaningful interactions and experiences. We are all less likely to experience FOMO but we know that social connectedness is essential.

Create opportunities to authentically connect with others. This could be as simple as a Facetime session with friends, exploring online experiences, or writing and sending an actual letter!

Write a list of all of the things you can do away from your phone and try them. When you pull out your phone, ask yourself why you are doing so and what you could do instead and then go do it!

Challenge yourself to limit screen time. We know that using devices more than 2 hours a day can negatively impact our mental health. Check out your daily usage patterns and set a goal to decrease use of your non-productivity apps.

Protect your sleep. Devices can prevent us from feeling sleepy (from the blue light), encourage an active brain in bed, and wake us up with notifications. Be sure to tuck your phone in somewhere away from your bed (outside of the bedroom is best) at least an hour before your desired bedtime.

Come to Unwind Offline to:

  • Understand why it’s so hard for everyone to put their phone down
  • Discuss positive and negative ways our device use impacts health and well-being
  • Get tips on how to maximize the pros and minimize the cons of your device
