Spencer Coppage

Recovery Community Coordinator

Spencer is the Coordinator for the Virginia Tech Recovery Community, housed within Hokie Wellness. In his role, he provides oversight to The Roost Living Learning Program, facilitates group recovery meetings, supports students through 1:1 mentorship, and fosters community and peer support by creating and implementing substance-free programming initiatives.

Spencer earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Virginia Tech in 2023, and has served in various volunteer and paid positions with the Recovery Community since 2020. His most recent professional experience includes facilitating BASICS sessions for Hokie Wellness, where he discovered a passion for Motivational Interviewing and supporting students in a 1:1 capacity.

Spencer cares deeply about supporting students in their recovery and helping them discover what recovery looks like for them. He offers a non-judgmental approach to allow students to find light in their darkest moments. He openly identifies as a person in recovery from substance use and believes that everyone can use recovery to better themselves and their lives. When he’s not at work, he’s usually taking care of the many reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals he and his partner have taken in. He loves playing video games, listening to music, and exploring nature.
