May is Older Americans Month and Hokie Wellness will once again honor our older citizens by hosting an Elder Care Symposium. The full-day symposium is designed to help employees who are caring for an elderly loved one now, expect to be caring for an elderly loved one in the near future, or want to learn more about growing older.
The symposium will be held on Wednesday, May 24 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Biocomplexity Institute of Virginia Tech. The Elder Care Symposium is presented by Hokie Wellness in partnership with Warm Hearth Village.
What is elder care?
Elder care is the fulfillment of the special needs and requirements that are unique to senior citizens. It emphasizes the social and personal requirements of senior citizens who need some assistance with daily activities and health care, but who desire to age with dignity.
When caregivers are family members, there are many things they need to know, including information about taking care of themselves as they take on this role.
The symposium will provide information and resources on some of the topics and issues that caregivers face and provide answers and solutions.
Individuals may sign up for the entire symposium or individual sessions.
Registration is now open for the whole day (lunch included), and for individual sessions.
